Osazenoriuwa Ebose and sophomore
Sarah Nielsen each won an event to lead the Swarthmore College women's track & field team at the Osprey Open on Saturday, Apr. 5 at Richard Stockton's G. Larry James Stadium.
Ebose won the discus throw and placed second in the shot put to pace the Garnet at the non-scoring meet. The thrower recorded a winning mark of 124-feet, 0-inches in the discus as well as a runner-up mark of 43-1.75 in the shot put.
Nielsen and sophomore
Katie Lin placed first and second with marks of 2:21.45 and 2:28.58, respectively, in the 800-meter run to lead Swarthmore in the track events. The middle distance event would prove to be the Garnet's strongest of the day, as freshman
Kate Hannah crossed the line sixth in 2:30.45 and sophomore
Kate Crowley was ninth with a mark of 2:35.30.
Swarthmore also posted a pair of runner-up finishes in the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay events. Lin,
Julia Nee,
Katherine Zavez and freshman
Anise Charles navigated the track in 51.93 seconds as members of the 4x100, while Lin, Nielsen, Nee and
Liz Tawa combined for a time of 4:17.41 in the 4x400.
Other notable individual performances were made by Nee, Tawa and freshman
Indy Reid-Shaw. Nee, a junior, placed third in the 400 in 1:00.80 as well as sixth in the 200 in 27.33. Tawa and Reid-Shaw were fifth and seventh with marks of 4:56.36 and 4:58.07, respectively, in the 1,500.
Swarthmore will return to action next weekend to compete at the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational in Baltimore on Saturday, Apr. 12.
