McMenamin Places Ninth in the Women’s Mile at NCAA Championships

Katie Jo McMenamin ran the fastest prelims time in the mile on Friday and set a school record; She placed ninth overall in the finals at NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships

LINCOLN, Neb. – Sophomore Katie Jo McMenamin of the Swarthmore College women's track & field team competed in the final round of the women's mile at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, March 15 at the University of Nebraska's Bob DeVaney Sports Center.

 McMenamin, who was the Centennial Conference champion in the event, placed ninth overall with her 4:57.97 finishing time. The Division III champion, Christy Cazzola of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, ran the mile loop in 4:51.47.

A native of Lafayette, Colo., McMenamin used a strong push on the bell lap to qualify for the finals with her school-record time of 4:56.11 on Friday afternoon. The mark, which broke Rebecca Hammond's previous program standard of 4:57.07, was also the fastest time of the 17 competitors.
