#19 Men’s Soccer Rallies to Record 3-1 Non-Conference Win Over Nazareth

Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Sophomores Devon Baughen and Wyatt McCall each recorded a goal and an assist in leading the Swarthmore men's soccer team to a 3-1 road win over Nazareth on Sunday, Sept. 15 at Golden Flyer Stadium.

After Ryan Foley scored a quick goal put Nazareth (2-3) on the board in the opening minutes of play, Swarthmore fired a barrage of shots at goalkeeper Nate Ripic and broke through with the equalizer when senior Jack Momeyer unleashed a shot that deflected off a Golden Flyer defender before finding the back of the net in the 31st minute. Junior Geoff Stewart almost put the Garnet ahead before halftime, but his attempt bounced off the crossbar and was cleared away.

Swarthmore (4-0-1) completely seized the momentum in the beginning of the second half, as Baughen volleyed the ball past the keeper after receiving a pass from junior Michael Superdock to put the Garnet ahead by a goal. Senior Noah Sterngold, who fed the ball to Superdock, was also credited with an assist on the play. Baughen then set up a McCall insurance tally in the 86th minute to put the match on ice.

Senior Peter Maxted made seven saves on 13 opportunities to earn the victory for Swarthmore. Ripic of Nazareth suffered the loss despite turning away eight of the 17 shots he faced.

Swarthmore, which is currently ranked 19th nationally by the NSCAA, returns to action when it hosts Richard Stockton on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.
