Men’s Soccer Suffers First Centennial Conference Loss in 2-1 Setback Against Haverford

Box Score HAVERFORD, Pa. – Senior Joe Keedy scored his third goal of the season, but the #18 Swarthmore College men's soccer team fell by a 2-1 decision to archival Haverford on Saturday , Oct. 26 at historic Joe Walton Field. Despite dropping its first conference match of the fall, the Garnet are still in a position to earn postseason hosting rights for the Centennial Conference Tournament.

Haverford (11-4-1, CC 5-2-1) scored two goals just 3:01 apart shortly after the midway point of the first half to set the tone. Tejan Walcott and Ford Bohrmann each hammered home headers in the 29th and 32nd minutes, respectively, to give the hosts a 2-0 advantage heading into the recess.

After yielding multiple goals in a half for the first time since Sept. 1, Swarthmore was able to cut the deficit in half in the 62nd minute when Joe Keedy shot on an open net with goalkeeper Sam Miller challenging him at the top of the box. The Garnet continued to apply pressure for the remainder of regulation and had multiple chances to tie the match, but Miller and the defensive line of Haverford kept the visitors at bay until the buzzer sounded. A Jack Momeyer shot from just outside the six following a free kick was blocked and cleared away in the waning seconds

Senior Peter Maxted of Swarthmore turned away four of the nine shots he faced in the losing effort. Miller made one save on six chances to pick up the victory for Haverford.

Swarthmore (9-3-4, CC 5-1-2) can clinch the league title and the right to host the semifinal round and championship match of the 2013 Centennial Conference Tournament when it wraps up the regular season at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m.
