Jay Kober Named to 2012-13 Capital One Academic All-District Men's Basketball Team

TOWSON, Md. - Junior Jay Kober of the Swarthmore College men's basketball team has been named to the 2012-13 Capital One Academic All-District Four Men's Basketball Team, the organization announced on Thursday.

Kober (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) is an academic all-district selection for the first time in his career. He also becomes the first member of the Swarthmore College men's basketball program to earn the distinction since Ian McCormick in 2008.

The junior is the Garnet's leading scorer and the seventh leading scorer in the Centennial Conference (15.8 ppg). He has scored at least 20 points in eight games this season, including a season-high 23 points in games against Ursinus and Roanoke. Kober also has two double-doubles on the season and ranks in the Centennial's top 10 for free-throw percentage (83.0) and three-point percentage (37.2).

Kober is one of four Centennial Conference student-athletes to earn all-district honors, joining John Ward of Ursinus and George Bugarinovic and Alex Pandrangi of Johns Hopkins.

The Academic All-District teams - selected by CoSida - are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the second year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year colleges.

Swarthmore returns to action on Saturday against Johns Hopkins. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
