Harleigh Chwastyk - a two-time Centennial
Conference Coach of the Year honoree - enters her 11th season at
the helm of the Swarthmore volleyball program. Chwastyk is on
maternity
leave from December 2011 to August 2012, with Nicole Kelly serving
as the head coach during the interim.
The program has seen great success under Chwastyk's tenure, including the program's first appearance in the Centennial Conference Championship match in 2010, six tournament titles, fourCentennial Conference playoff appearances and three ECAC Playoff berths. Over the course of Chwastyk's collegiate coaching career, her players have garnered 19 all-conference selections, four CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, and a Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Performer of the Year.
Chwastyk came to Swarthmore in 2002 after spending two years as an assistant volleyball coach at Smith College. While at Smith, she earned a master of science in exercise and sport studies. In 2000, Chwastyk graduated from Trinity College (CT) with a bachelor of arts in history. While at Trinity, she was a two-year captain and team MVP of the volleyball team. Chwastyk still holds school records for career solo blocks, season block assists, and season total blocks. She was also a three-time varsity letter winner on the women's basketball team.
A widely respected coach, Chwastyk has served on a number of American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) committees. She currently chairs the AVCA All-America Awards Committee and is a poll voter on the AVCA Top 25 National Coaches Poll. She is the camp director of the NIKE Volleyball at Swarthmore and lectures at area camps and clinics throughout the Northeast. In addition to her coaching duties, she also oversees the physical education program at Swarthmore, teaches physical education classes and serves on a number of faculty committees.
Chwastyk lives in Rutledge, Pa. with her husband Dave and son Logan.
