Work for Athletics in 2012-13
A job in the athletics department at Swarthmore College is an excellent way for students to earn money, interact with other sports-loving Swat students, and take a breather from the rigors of academics.
All the jobs listed come with basic training and offer the opportunity to work around a flexible schedule. Job Descriptions
There are three categories (I, II, III) of student worker jobs
available to students, based on the work involved with each.
Team Managers
Assist the coaches in any needed way. Duties may include office
work, game-day statistics, video-taping, etc.

PA Announcer
Will announce general game information to spectators through
public address system. Requires clear speaking voice and
knowledge of sports.

Ball Chasers
Work sidelines at home intercollegiate athletics contests,
shagging loose balls as they stray from field. This job provides
the most available hours for first-year students and new
workers.

Statisticians
Will record game activity or assist sports information director in
recording game activity for intercollegiate athletics contests.
Requires general knowledge of sports.

Volleyball Line Judges
Officiating the out-of-bounds lines for home intercollegiate
volleyball contests. Training to be provided, knowledge of sport
helpful but not necessary.

Clock/Scoreboard Operators
Will operate game clock and/or scoreboard during intercollegiate
athletic contests. Knowledge of sports helpful but not
necessary.

Photographer
Will photograph home athletics contest action on film for
publications and archives. Prior athletics photography experience
preferred.

Video Camera Operator
Will record home events for videostreaming and select away
athletic contests on video tape.

Sports Information Office Assistant
Will assist in daily office duties including filing, researching,
assisting with brochure layouts. Knowledge of sports,
Microsoft Office, Quark, Content Management System is helpful but
not necessary.

Game Recap Writers
Will gain practical experience writing game recaps, features and
releases to be edited by the Athletic Communications Office.

Pay Category: CAT III: 3 hours per story
Coaches' Office Assistant
Will assist in daily office duties (for any of our coaches)
including, research, typing, filing, and writing. Knowledge
of sports, Microsoft Office, FileMaker Pro, Quark helpful but not
necessary.
