Mission Statement

As members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at Swarthmore College, our mission is to:

  • - Through sponsored endeavors, cultivate and strengthen ties between the varsity athletic community and the larger Swarthmore community;
  • - Promote varsity athletics as a valuable part of the collegiate experience and take steps to increase overall campus awareness of varsity athletic events;
  • - Support and act as a resource for Swarthmore varsity student-athletes through formal meetings that are open to all Swarthmore varsity student-athletes;
  • - Through regular communication, act as a liaison between student-athletes and the athletics administration to address concerns and resolve any conflicts;
  • - Encourage student-athletes as both individuals and teams to continue to cultivate strong relationships within the athletic community.

Recent News

In the spring of 2010, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) started a tradition of bi-annual pep rallies which feature the athletics teams as well as other campus groups.  The fall pep rally was held in conjunction with Swarthmore's Homecoming Weekend.  The whole Swarthmore community is encouraged to attend with entertainment meant for all.  During the fall, we took donation to be sent to the Bernadine Center in Chester, Pa.  The Spring 2011 is scheduled to take to take place on February 25th, 2011.

Part of SAAC’s mission is to encourage student-athletes to continue to cultivate the relationship between the athletics community and the local community.  As part of fulfilling this mission, SAAC participated in PathWay’s Adopt-a-Family Program last year.  As a participant in this program SAAC purchased gifts for a disadvantaged family in the Philadelphia area.  This year, SAAC is joining with Widener University's chapter to promote the importance of community in addition to promoting the 320 Challenge.
