Women's Swimming Sweeps Year-End Polls
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Just like they did at the
2012 Centennial Conference Championships, Supriya Davis '15 and the
Swarthmore College women's swimming team dominated the competition
in the 2011-12 Swarthmore Athletics Year-End Polls.
Davis' six gold-medal performance at the Centennial Conference
Championships was voted the Best Individual Performance of the
2011-12 season while the women's swim team's dominant performance
at the Championships was voted the Best Event of 2011-12.
Davis - who garnered All-America status in both the 100 and 200 Fly
at the NCAA Division III Championships in March - captured 34% of
the vote, narrowly defeating Annalise Penikis' performance at Centennial
Conference women's lacrosse playoffs (29%). Will Gates' milestone game against Ursinus
finished third (13%).
The women's swim team's performance at the 2012
Centennial Conference Championships, which included 10 event
championships, collected a whopping 40.07% of the vote to claim the
title of Best Event of 2011-12, besting the women's soccer team's playoff-clinching victory
over Haverford (12%) and the baseball team's miracle comeback in Arizona
(10%).
Nearly 2,500 votes were cast across both polls.
