Women's Basketball
Swarthmore 73, Dickinson 51 (Jan. 12)
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Behind a career performance from senior Madeline
Ross, the Swarthmore College (11-2, 7-1) women's basketball team
dominated visiting Dickinson (8-5, 4-5) for a 73-51 victory in
Centennial Conference action Saturday afternoon. Ross –
entering Saturday's game shooting under ten percent from beyond the
arc – finished hitting 7-for-12 threes en route to a
career-high 30-point performance. Ross was a thorn in the Red
Devils' side in the first half, scoring 26 of Swarthmore's 45
points.
Swarthmore 56, McDaniel 42 (Jan. 10)
Westminister, Md. - Katie Lytle finished with 19 points and 17
rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season to power the
Swarthmore College women's basketball team past McDaniel College,
56-42, in Centennial Conference action Thursday night. Lytle
– a leader in the second half with nine points and 10
rebounds – put in an all-around effort in the Swarthmore
(10-2, 6-1 CC) victory notching two blocks, two steals and one
assist to go along with her double-double performance.

Johns Hopkins 77, Swarthmore 66 (Jan. 8)
SWATHMORE, Pa. – Despite rallying all the way back from a
17-point first-half deficit, the Swarthmore College women's
basketball team (9-2, 5-1) could not pull off the incredible
comeback, as visiting Johns Hopkins (5-8, 3-5) held on for a 77-66
victory on Tuesday afternoon from Tarble Pavilion. Madeline Ross
led the Garnet with 21 points. Freshman Jessica Jowdy finished with
10 steals, which is just two shy of the Centennial Conference
record and one shy of the program record. Katie Lytle and Elle
Larsen each managed double-digit performances with 17 and 14
points, respectively.
Men’s Basketball
Dickinson 65, Swarthmore 61 (Jan. 12)
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Senior Will Gates hit back rim on a potential
game-tying three-pointer in the waning seconds of regulation, as
the Swarthmore College men's basketball team (3-12, 2-6) fought
hard but ultimately fell to Dickinson (12-4, 6-2) by a score of
65-61 on Saturday afternoon from Tarble Pavilion. Junior Jay Kober
led the Garnet with a team-high 16 points, while junior Joe Keedy
finished just one rebound shy of a double-double (11 points, nine
rebounds). Freshman Ethan Lee had a strong all-around game, scoring
12 points and pulling down six rebounds.

Johns Hopkins 63, Swarthmore 44 (Jan. 8)
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Three players reached double-digits to lead
visiting Johns Hopkins to a 63-44 win over the Swarthmore College
men's basketball team (3-11, 2-5) on Tuesday evening from Tarble
Pavilion. Big man George Bugarinovic led the way for the Blue Jays
(7-7, 4-3) with 16 points - 14 of which came in the first half.
Connor McIntyre (14 points) and Jimmy Hammer (12 points) also
reached double-figures for Hopkins. Junior Jay Kober led the Garnet
with 12 points, including an eight-of-nine performance from the
free-throw line. Senior Will Gates finished with 11 points
while sophomore Karl Barkley added nine points.

Women’s Track & Field
NYC Gotham Cup (Jan. 12)
NEW YORK – Highlighted by setting the program's third-best distance medley mark, the Swarthmore College women's track and field returned to indoor competition on Saturday in the NYC Gotham Cup held at the Armory. Katie McMenamin, Jenna Cody, Rebecca Hammond and Julia Nee paced the Garnet to a second place finish in the distance medley event, clocking in at 12:35.91 (ECAC qualifier), which now stands as the program's third-best mark all-time.
Men’s Track & Field
NYC Gotham Cup (Jan. 12)
The Swarthmore College men's track and field team opened 2013 with its first trip to the Armory, competing in the NYC Gotham Cup on Saturday. On the track, Jason Heo crossed the line at 7.48 followed by Matthew Heck at 7.53 and Tim Vaughan-Ogunlusi at 7.60 in the 60-meter dash event. All three times fall on the program's top-ten list, while Heo bettered his time of earlier this season by two seconds as a program-best mark in the event.

Garnet Feature Friday: (Jan. 11)
In the first installment of Garnet Feature Friday, a series that will highlight past Garnet teams, notable Garnet alumni, and current student-athletes, we took a look back at the 1997-98 Women's Track & Field Team, which captured the 1998 Centennial Conference Indoor Championship and produced some of the school's top female athletes.
The 1997-98 Swarthmore College women’s track and field team captured its second straight indoor Centennial Conference championship in 1998 by outscoring the second place finishers Haverford by 30 points (123-93). This team also took the 1998 outdoor conference championship - placing ahead of Haverford by a score of 144.5 to 134.

Madeline Ross (Doylestown, Pa. / Central Bucks East),
Women’s Basketball
Ross collected three double-digit performances this past week,
including a career-best 30 in Swarthmore’s win over
Dickinson. She scored 26 of her 30 points in the first half,
including six treys – Swarthmore finished the first half with
a 45-23 lead over the Red Devils. The senior guard averaged 20.33
points per game on the week, shooting 51.1 percent from the field
(22-for-43). Prior to the game, Ross was shooting just 8.82 percent
(3-for-34) from beyond the arc – after hitting 7-of-12 on
Saturday, she has a season accuracy of 21.7 percent. Additionally,
she collected 10 rebounds, 11 assists and six steals in a 2-1 week
for Swarthmore.
Garnet Athletics Did You Know?
