Swarthmore Athletics Announces Creation of Garnet Hall of Fame
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - In an effort to commemorate exceptional
performances by teams and individuals associated with athletics at
Swarthmore College, the Department of Athletics will establish the
Garnet Hall of Fame.
Nominations are now being accepted for the inaugural class.
Induction of the inaugural class into the Garnet Hall of Fame will
take place at an awards banquet during the 2011-12 academic year.
Inductees to the Garnet Hall of Fame will be categorized as
athletes, coaches, teams, or special associates. An official
induction date for the inaugural class will be announced at a later
time.
"Creating the Hall of Fame represents the next step in an ongoing
commitment to Garnet Athletics and an opportunity to celebrate and
remember some truly distinctive accomplishments from throughout the
program's history," said Adam Hertz, the Marian Ware Director of
Physical Education and Athletics.
Eligible candidates for the Garnet Hall of Fame must be Swarthmore
College graduates, members of the Swarthmore College community, or
individuals who have made a significant and distinctive impact on
Swarthmore College Athletics and Swarthmore College.
A Hall of Fame Board and committee will oversee nominations for
the Garnet Hall of Fame. Nominations will be solicited and accepted
annually from the Swarthmore community. Any athlete 10 or
more years after their graduation will be eligible. Any coach
or administrator will be eligible five years or more after their
retirement or leaving College employment.
